Prairie Trails Public Library District

Computer and Internet Use Guidelines

Prairie Trails Public Library District extends the privilege of Internet access through the Library's computer exclusively for educational and informational purposes.
Users should note Prairie Trails Public Library does not control, nor can it be responsible for the content of the Internet, and that the majority of the information located on the network is generated outside of the library district.
It is technically impossible for the Library to restrict or prevent access to controversial materials on the Internet which may be offensive to some users or considered inappropriate for minors. Parents are encouraged to use technology with their children. Most importantly, parents and legal guardians must be aware that they are fully responsible for their child's use of the system; and accept full responsibility for monitoring and supervising their child's activities on the network. As with other library materials, restriction of a child's access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent/legal guardian.
Most of Prairie Trails Public Library's software is protected by federal copyright laws (section 17 of the 1976 Copyright Act) or by the licensing agreement between supplier and purchaser. Software provided by Prairie Trails Public Library can only be used on the computer equipment specified in the software license. It is against the Library's policy to copy or reproduce any licensed software on Prairie Trails Library's computers, except as expressly permitted by the software license. Unauthorized use of software is regarded as a serious matter and any such use is without the consent of the Prairie Trails Public Library.
